RPI AWARDED $2.5 MILLION FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH

The RPI award was the only one made in the Capital Region. The largest grants went to three downstate institutions: $5.87 million to Columbia University Medical Center, $5.44 million to the New York University School of Medicine, and $5.50 million to Stony Brook University. The University of Buffalo receieved $3.56 million and the University of Rochester received $3.33 million. Cornell University received $1.10 million.
So far, the program has awarded $303 million under a multi-year effort to support stem cell science statewide.

"These grants will not only help New York retain its scientific talent but will facilitate multi-institutional collaboration and sharing of knowledge and technology," said Health Commissioner Richard Daines. "These are critical steps in developing strategies to guide decisions about stem cell research and regenerative medicine," Dr. Daines added in a prepared statement.
